Momocon 2012 Con Report

Mon Mar 19, 2012, 5:10 AM

OKIIIIEEE DOKKKIIIIEE~! Last week was an eventful week considering Thursday before we left on Friday to head down to Atlanta Steve got himself a new car. So he ended up driving his new Skyactiv Mazda 3 to the city ... and it's a manual so I warned him not to break his clutch. D: THANKFULLY that didn't happen thanks to the lovely valet parking at our hotel. We stayed at the Hyatt Regency in the Radius Tower, and ended up having a little skybridge right outside the entrance to our part of the hotel that led into the mall so we were like 5 minutes away from food (Yay!) and on the other end a skybridge that led directly into the Mariott Marquis - that was so helpful, you have no idea.

:bulletblue: Friday

We left home around 8 AM and took our two dogs (we have a Jack-a-Bee and a Boxer/German Shepherd mix) to where they would be staying the weekend away from us. I was a bit worried since Darci, our Boxer/Shepherd mix, is about 4 months old and we'd just had her spayed on the 7th of March so she was still healing up a bit. She's a little sweet, feisty, thing that likes to play nonstop as all wonderful Boxers do (No, really, Boxers are probably one of my favorite breeds. They're gorgeous animals and their personalities are always AMAZING; I made my husband and I get her <3) so I was hoping she wouldn't go too crazy when she was able to run around a large fenced in yard. She and our other dog Rayne, the Jack-a-bee, hadn't really gone at one another playfully since she'd gotten her stitches because Darci liked to try and pull her skin fastenings out. We ended up having to crate her mostly and keep a t-shirt on her 24/7 so she didn't chew her wound. ANYWAY, we got on the road around 9 AM after driving the 15 minutes to drop the babies off, and the 15 minutes back to get back uptown where we live to get on the highway. Drove for about an hour before my husband had to pull over to potty (thankfully because I did too when he woke me up from my nap) and grab himself a soda.

Got back on the road and drove until we got to Atlanta, which was around 2:30 PM or so, give or take a few minutes. Ended up getting to our hotel and found out it was one of those 5-star quality ones that we were paying 3-star quality price a night for, needless to say I was SO happy I had gone with the Hyatt instead of the other one I was looking at. The valet parking and ability to walk everywhere since I know my way around Georgia like the back of my hand was fantastic and kept Steve from breaking his new toy er car. While waiting for our car to be parked he checked, called our Mothers to let them know their son/son-in-law hadn't killed us on the way there, checked on our dogs, and then walked down to the mall to get something to eat. We ended up eating at this little Chinese place near Moe's and let me tell you for the price this food had fantastic flavor and the quantity you got was huge! Plus, I'm a sucker for people who can cook Tofu properly, so when both Steve and my ears heard them say Tofu we jumped our little Vegetarian hearts up with joy. It was a very nice spice that had a slight tangy sweet to it after the initial heat kick and to my palette was a wonderful first stop on the food weekend. After eating we walked to the Marquis to snag our pre-reg badges before the line got ridiculous - I'm very glad we snagged them before getting changed into our Friday costumes.

We ended up getting into our hotel around 3:45 or 4 PM after going to the motor lobby to get our luggage out of our car and cart it to our room. After all this I got dressed up in my Pinkie Pie cosplay, and let me tell you I nearly cried; that wig was so gorgeous and it's curls were so perfect that when I had to separate some of them and disrupt it's perfect beauty to put my Pony ears in ... it broke my heart. Steve got on his Renton cosplay, I drew on his mustache and we headed back to the con with our map to try and figure out the layout of this hotel. Now, mind you, the hotel that Momocon was hosted in was beautiful ... but I swear they could have labeled each floor/level so we knew where the 'International' level was. The provided map was easy to read, but because the floors themselves were numerous and each filled with con-goers it was a bit hard to tell which floor was which without stopping to look below you with the map and trying to turn it and place what floor was which. We got it down by Saturday though, thankfully. We attended the Fairy Tail panel first because I'm a huge Fairy Tail sucker ... and I was honestly a bit disappointed. I wasn't expecting a podcast type of thing, I was expecting actual manga/anime talk about plot, characters, development, etc so when it was simply all about a FT podcast ... well I was less than pleased.

Ended up leaving the con around 7PM to go back to the hotel, I showered and got dressed normally so we could go out. Steve and I walked around Downtown for a while, me just showing him the city a bit since he's never been to Atlanta, before trying to find a place to eat. We ended up looking all over for Benihana's ... not knowing it was in the underground part of the mall since I'd never eaten there before, no I mean we probably walked from 7:45 to around 9:15 looking for it before we finally found it and were able to get in line to eat some Benihana. After the near hour wait we got seated around 10 PM and I had this DELICIOUS Strawberry Passion Fruit smoothie concoction with Tempura Veggies (I wasn't too hungry) while Steve got his bottle of Sake and a lovely presented steamed Veggie dish.

All in all, Friday was a chill day, much like it usually is after the 5 hour drive to Atlanta from our home.

:bulletblue: Saturday

Steve and I did our Cosmo and Wanda cosplays Saturday morning, so we got up, had coffee, got dressed and headed to the con around 10 AM. We ended up getting back in Starbuck's line as soon as we got to the Marquis because Steve wanted ANOTHER Venti coffee ... and I wanted a croissant when I saw them. I'm an avid bread person, I love bread; sadly I think I'm a 300 pound person shoved in a muscular 130 pound, 5'7", pregnant woman's body ... because I can ear, and I love to eat, and somehow I manage to stay rail thin even when I don't work-out as much as I should. It's FANTASTIC <3 Needless to say I finished my bread, Steve was about to take a first sip of his coffee after waiting on it to cool a bit so he could drink it ... and the day of mass amounts of photos, compliments, hugs, and not being able to walk a foot without stopping began. Seriously Steve was trying to take a FIRST sip of coffee for fifteen minutes before he managed to do so the poor thing. Cosmo and Wanda was a hit, despite the fact that my poor wings decided about mid-morning they were going to derp and flop on themselves so it looked like I was flying sideways.

We attended Livvylove and Adam's Couple's Cosplay panel, and me being a HUGE HUGE HUGE fan of theirs I ended up fangasming when I found out they were the ones hosting it. Really we got in, sat down, and I went fish face when I looked up to the front. I was the happiest little spaz ever, and Steve being that he's just getting into cosplay and this con was his first real cosplay debut took a LOT from the panel. He left even more excited about costuming than when we got to the con on Friday. ... And sure enough before we could get out the door, we had around four people ask us for photos. We went through the rest of the day like this until around 3 PM when we went back to the hotel and changed. Steve became his normal geeky self and I put on my Chansey Gijinka.

Honestly I was sure that no one would know who I was doing, however there ended up being around 5 people that saw me and got excited. I got two photos in it, and I was highly happy about it. I was very proud of how my Chansey turned out, and it was probably one of the most comfortable cosplays I've worn to a convention, so it ended up being a nice end of the costuming day. We went back to the mall to snag some foodage, ate at this little health food-esque place we'd seen the day before and it was DELICIOUS. You give me a buffet of veggies, tofu, and cheese where I can point and you cook them all up for me together then slab them on a piece of pita bread ... and you've just made me a very happy lady. After returning to the con and derping around the Dealers room I found my Happy plush from Fairy Tail I'd been looking for. I've been planning a Natsu/Lucy cosplay for Steve and I for a few months and been looking for a Happy that I was, well, happy with. I found him and a very cute vintage patchwork bear in Artist's Alley that I got for the baby's room.

Around 7PM we headed back to the hotel, I showered and changed, then we went for another walk around Atlanta and strolled through Olympic Park. Headed back to the mall around 9:45 and grabbed some sushi from Yami Yami. I had never tasted Sweet Potato sushi, and was a bit skeptical about it at first because I'm picky with how I will eat sweet potatoes ... but I swear I put this huge piece of potato sushi in my mouth I died and went to sushi heaven. I was set with my three pieces of Tamago Nigiri and three pieces of Sweet Potato Maki. Then we snagged Steve a Blizzard from DQ since we don't have a Dairy Queen where we live anymore, and headed back to the hotel to go to sleep. YAY SLEEP <3

:bulletblue: Sunday

To sum up the chill day that is Sunday? Steve and I went to a panel that morning, I got to see the famous Redline I'd heard about a few times but never watched, and got instantly hooked. Seriously we got home, bought Redline, watched it, and I'm now planning cosplays from it. The animation was GORGEOUS, and for me to watch anime/anime movies ... it has to be good. I'm a reader nerd. We left the con around 12:30 after eating a bit more Yami Yami sushi (it was too good not to eat again) and got home after picking up our puppies around 6:30 PM.

All in all, Momocon you were very fun. The only real complaints I had were the non-labeled floors, the crappy Fairy Tail panel, and ... all ... the fucking .. Homestuck. Seriously, I was sick of it at Ichibancon ... this time after three days worth of Ichibancon sized Homestuck shit ... I WILL MURDER ANYONE I SEE FROM THAT CRAPPY COMIC AGAIN. I SWEAR. /rage

Well now it's time for me to go shower and start my day. I hope you all have a fantastic one, and I'll be posting again when I go to Nashicon! <3

I believe you are correct, because I'm almost 100% sure I fanned over your Auron in the past.

In fact I'm almost certain I have a photo of you in it from some con SOMEWHERE on my massively unorganized flash drive located upstairs.
